Exemplar Assignment

It is always a good thing to have an example to demonstrate new technologies to teachers. The following assignment should be available on our course site. I don't see it taking a long time I see it being a very helpful tool for you long after this class has finished.

Social Bookmarking Example

Here is a short example of the use of del.icio.us using our Facebook articles.

Why Did You Stop (Using Technology)?

This is a question I am posing to teachers who were enthusiatic about technology then stopped using it. Why? What made you stop. Is it also an example of a digital story you might try creating later in the course.

SpacePort Alpha

In which Dr. McVey (aka Oyama Maroon) shows you how to take a trip on a rocket.

The Sistine Chapel

In which Dr. McVey (aka Oyama Maroon) takes you on a brief visit of some Second Life architecture and demonstrates how Second Life can engage students with works of art.

MYSPACE DOES RUIN YOUR LIFE!! WELL MAYBE JUST SUCKS UP YOUR TIME...

WOW! Now I remember why I got off the social networking train a few years ago. MySpace has been a lot of fun but it consumes much of my time becuase it is addicting. I think one of my favorite things about myspace is a way to stay in touch with friends from the "real world" that you don't see a whole lot. I also like the band page feature, being into music myself it is great way to post some of the songs that I have written and performed. Maybe I 'll get that all up an running and develop a fan… Continue

Podcast thoughts and feelings :)

She pretty much nailed social networks and how they are used by our teens. I thought she brought up a great point when she started talking about the fact that everything we ever say or blog about online is saved and can come back to haunt us in the future. My mom always told me that if you don't want other people to read it or have your own words come back to you..then you should never write them down. Wise women since she said this about ten years before social networking was an option for me.… Continue

My initial experience in Second Life

Yesterday, Dr. McVey took a small group for a tour of Second Life. We were able to meet up at a specific time in the virtual world and communicate via our microphones. Dr. McVey took the group to a number of locations throughout Second Life.

One of my favorite places we visited was a NASA exploration where we got to actually ride on a NASA rocket to space. Once in space we could explore the exhibits and learn about NASA. To get back to earth was probably my most memorable experience fro… Continue
